WE WILL: Protect a Pregnant Woman’s Liberty to Choose

The fall of Roe is yet another legacy of Senator Wyden’s tenure. Remember, it was in 1973 that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the Constitution of the United States protects a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose. Also note, Senator Wyden has held congressional office since 1981. Further recognize, William, like so many Americans, cannot remember a time when Roe was free from attack.

So, why didn’t Senator Wyden use his lifetime of experience to pass legislation codifying Roe v. Wade as the law of the land before the court had the chance to overturn it? Don’t blame today’s political environment. The elder statesman has had 40 years to get it done. He simply did not do it. He did not pass legislation to protect a

woman’s liberty while there was bipartisanship in congress. He did not pass legislation to protect a woman’s right to choose when Trump was campaigning on a promise of overturning the landmark court decision. Senator Wyden did not even codify into law a woman’s right to choose when the Mississippi case was headed to the Supreme Court – how obscene. Most Americans want a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose protected but Senator Wyden has not done that.

Should Roe fall, William will vote in favor of legislation that codifies a woman’s right to access reproductive healthcare into law.
